Become a Youth Soccer Referee!

By staff, 08/10/18, 10:00PM CDT

Do you love soccer? Are you looking for an occasional job that involves sports?

The Chicago Powerstrikers youth soccer club is looking for interested individuals ages 12 and up to become assistant referees.  Assistant referees (linesmen) play an important part in helping the main referees keep the game safe, fair, and fun.

Assistant referees are paid $25-$35 per game, depending on the age level.  Powerstriker home games are held at Northeastern Illinois University (W. Foster and N. St. Louis Avenues ).

The American Youth Soccer Organization Region 183 is hosting a training on Sunday, September 9 from 9-4 pm at Hollywood Park for its youth leagues.  More information about the training can be found below.  If you attend this training, you will be asked to volunteer as a referee for AYSO at Hollywood or Peterson Park.  Attending the training and volunteering as a referee also provides service learning credit.

You can then also serve as a Powerstriker assistant referee starting this fall.  You will be asked to attend additional training to continue as a Powerstriker assistant referee when trainings are conducted by the Illinois Soccer Referee Committee in the winter.  Please contact Mariann Lemke if you are interested or with any questions about the Powerstrikers at  Questions about the AYSO course itself should be directed to
